Artist's Description

Brockway started out as a coach or carriage works company in Homer, New York in 1875 by William Brockway. In 1889 George Brockway, Williams son took over the business. Shortley after taking over the business George realized that mechanical vehicles were going to replace the horse drawn business and began the planning over the next 20 years to take the coach business to the next level.

From 1911 to the end of the company in 1977 they built specialized trucks. They began with delivery trucks and continued to add to the line, vehicles such as this 1917-1921 ladder truck. The main reasons for the company closing was: labor disputes in the 1970's, the recession, fuel and parts insecurities, and tightening of government restrictions.

This specific specimen was saved and is being restored in North Carolina.
