Description
This is a black and white image of the city of Chicago from the train yards on the south side of the city. The train yards and packing houses is what made Chicago the crossroads of America.
This image is a fleeting example of the wealth that the City of Chicago had and could have again. It was a manufacturing utopia. Hard times, high taxes, and a high cost of living have brought this booming city to its knees and near bankruptcy. Maybe one day politicians will realize that raising taxes is like borrowing money, it is a temporary fix to a long term problem, this is the lesson Detroit is learning the hard way. Ok it is time to get off the soapbox.
Chicago is divided up into wards. This image was taken in what is now the 24 ward of Chicago, which is right outside the little village area in Chicago. This area has a mix of train yards, near the back of the old stockyards and has a well-mixed grouping of residential areas, businesses, and services.
Chicago is a rather beautiful city one ward you are at the lakefront go a couple miles and you are in the heart of downtown go a few more miles and your and you are in the heart of industry and yet a few more miles you are on the outskirts of the city. The main attraction of the city has to be the lake and all the activity that happens around the lake.
Chicago truly is a city that does not sleep. It could be 4 am and you can find something to do, somewhere to eat and friends to hang out with. Chicago is not a city that rolls up the sidewalks at night that is for sure. Chicago will always be home.
