Crescent Oil Company was an American oil company that was founded in 1929 and was headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana. The company's main business was the refining and marketing of petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel fuel, and motor oil.
During World War II, Crescent Oil Company played a significant role in the war effort, supplying fuel to the military and contributing to the construction of the Alaska Highway.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Crescent Oil Company continued to expand its operations and became involved in the production of petrochemicals. In 1966, the company merged with Gulf Oil Corporation, a major oil company based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
As a result of the merger, Crescent Oil Company became a subsidiary of Gulf Oil Corporation and continued to operate under the Crescent brand name. The company was later renamed to Crescent Petroleum Company.
In the 1980s, Crescent Petroleum Company was acquired by Texaco, another major oil company. Texaco continued to operate the Crescent brand name until 2001, when it merged with Chevron Corporation to form ChevronTexaco.
