A close up image of a lion fish (Pterois volitans). Lionfish are considered predatory invasive species in the western Atlantic Ocean (east coast of the US) and Caribbean. This species is considered the most aggressive of them all. It is assumed that because this fish is very popular in aquariums that unwanted lion fish have been dumped into the ocean off of the east coast of the US and they have multiplied very well and thrived in the harsh Atlantic coast environment. .
