The general store was the meeting place, the center of activity in the early 1900's. Every community the small hometown USA communities all had a general store. They were hardware stores, clothiers, and catalog sales for items they did not carry in the store. The rule of thumb was if the general store does not carry it they can get it. The only thing I wish it had was a few benches or chairs and some older men sitting around taking about the local events of interest.
