Savage Arms is an American firearms manufacturer with a long and interesting history. Here is a brief overview:
Savage Arms was founded in 1894 by Arthur Savage in Utica, New York. The company began by producing a hammerless lever-action rifle, the Model 99, which became a popular hunting rifle in the early 20th century. Savage was an innovative company and introduced many new technologies to the firearms industry, including the first hammerless striker-fired rifle and the first high-powered rifle designed specifically for the .30-06 cartridge.
During World War I, Savage Arms produced the Lewis light machine gun for the U.S. military. After the war, the company continued to innovate, introducing the first rifle with a detachable box magazine, the Model 1920.
In the 1930s, Savage Arms was acquired by the Stevens Company, another firearms manufacturer, and the two companies merged to form Savage-Stevens. During World War II, the company produced a variety of military firearms, including the Model 24 combination gun and the Model 720 semi-automatic shotgun.
After the war, Savage-Stevens continued to produce firearms for both the military and civilian markets. In the 1960s, the company introduced the Model 110 rifle, which featured a revolutionary new design that allowed for easy barrel changing and made the gun more accurate. This design was so successful that it is still used in many Savage rifles today.
In 1988, the company was acquired by the sporting goods conglomerate Blount International, which also owned brands such as Remington and Bushnell. Savage Arms continued to innovate, introducing the AccuTrigger, a revolutionary new trigger design that allowed for a much lighter trigger pull with a high degree of safety.
Today, Savage Arms is still a leading manufacturer of rifles, shotguns, and other firearms. The company is known for its innovative designs and high-quality products, and it continues to be a favorite among hunters and shooters around the world.
