Description
This waterfall scene was the actual scene from a waterfall in Pisgah National Forest, including the skull appearance in the falls. The macabre image was generated by high water flow over the rocks and not just part of fantasy imagination of a place. This is just one of the many scenes you may see in North Carolina while hiking and exploring waterfalls.
I have been asked several times if I intended to capture this in the waterfall the honest answer is no. The truth be told the skull formation in the water flow was nothing more than being in the right time at the right place. The digital oil painting is based on an image I captured while being at Pisgah National Forest. The original image is also featured on Fine Arts America in our waterfalls gallery. Another fact is this image was one of a series that I had captured that day using a long exposure and I did not realize I had captured it until many hours later when I was reviewing the series and preparing to post the images from that day, the only true knowledge I had of the capture was that the waterfall had a peculiar water flow and splash area.
Since that time many have commented that the image and flow looks like Eddie the head, the iconic mascot, so to speak, from the 1980s English rock band Iron Maiden. I suppose that has given a clue to my age but I am ok with that.
I continue to enjoy hunting down and recording waterfalls either in digital art prints, such as this one, or as photographs. The hunt for the new and unusual is the driving force behind images of nature and the phenomenon's that nature holds for us.
Friends family and God's creations I cannot think of a better way to spend a day.
