Artist's Description
This is image 1 from the top of the dam behind Great Falls in Rockingham. It does not look like much today but once upon a time, this is where the Kinetic energy was created to run the cotton mill.
The Great falls waterfall in Rockingham Co is located on Little Carr Creek behind Great falls mill. It was a natural waterfall that had a dam built around it to power the cotton textile mill there. The mill was originally built in 1833, burnt down by sherman during the civil war, rebuilt in 1869, and then burned again in 1972. The ruins of the mill remain and are in front of the waterfall.
