Description
This is a b&W image of New River Gorge Bridge in West Virginia. The new River gorge bridge is the image on the WV state quarter. This bridge is an architectural wonder of the 20th century. The New River Gorge Bridge spans the New River Gorge outside of Fayetteville in West Virginia.
In the fall the new river gorge area is very scenic, a multitude of colors and trees all the way down to the valley and river. To enjoy the architecture of the New River Gorge Bridge is best accomplished in black and white. Black and white isolates the structure itself and helps block the distractions from the high color of the area.
This specific image was taken on a rather overcast day which helped highlight the structure itself as opposed to distractions from the sunlight. One of the real reasons those who shoot only in color prefer shooting during the golden hours. Foggy and overcast days prolong the golden hours some and allow for details to capture more dominance in the image.
At any rate this image was taken at mid-day in the early fall. The bridge is 3,030 feet long and was one of the worlds longest single span arch bridges and was one of the highest bridges in the world at the time of construction. Today it is the highest bridge in the US open to vehicle traffic and is the third highest bridge in the US. The new river Gorge bridge is the bridge that adorns the West Virginia State quarter.
The New River Gorge Bridge combines two things, the natural beauty of the State of West Virginia with Modern marvels of engineering. Athough very functional, the design of the new river gorge bridge architecturally fits the landscape of the area. A beautiful and graceful design in a state of very evident natural beauty.
